Profile
Grimley Smith Associates was originally engaged by a South American Oil Major to develop a plant to treat residues generated from burning OrimulsionTM fuel. The original process was developed by the client with GSA providing the FEED and EPC management. Subsequently, GSA provided process and mechanical engineering resources to run the plant 'for and on behalf of' the client. In 2003 GSA took full responsibility for the process plant including full ownership of the technology. This resulted in the inception of GSA Environmental (GSAE). GSAE then developed further technologies to treat a wider range of materials such as spent catalysts and gasification residues.
GSAE's technology can be applied to recover catalytic metals employed in novel deep conversion technologies. The deep conversion technologies use sacrificial slurry-type nickel and molybdenum catalysts which are retained in process residues. GSAE's technology recovers the catalytic metals for reuse, preventing their release to the environment, also saving the client significant operating costs. GSA is providing multi-disciplined engineering support in the commercialisation of these deep conversion technologies.
GSA's position as a combined metals recovery technology licensor and multi-disciplined engineering group places GSA Environmental in a unique position to offer a full range of services tailored to clients individual needs.
GSAE's metals recovery projects include: UK - Harwich, UK - Humber region, Venezuela - Amuay, Venezuela - Puerto la Cruz, Mexico, Sicily, Iran and Germany.
